The conference was organized by Prof. Dr. Barbara Thiessen and Kathrin Peltz (University of Applied Sciences Landshut), Prof. Dr. Marina Adler, (University of Maryland, Baltimore County), Dr. Claudia Zerle-Elsäßer, (German Youth Institute, DJI), Prof. Dr. Karl Lenz and Dr. Tino Schlinzig (TU Dresden). The Conference was funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Institute for Social Change and Cohesion Research (IKON).
The conference brought together presenters from various European countries (Austria, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Lithuania, Norway, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, UK), China and the US and participants from over 20 countries.
The conference focused on the interplay of fathers‘ everyday care-practices, gender-specific welfare state structures, and specific policies targeted at fathers. Panel Sessions emphasized the influence of policies, diverse family forms, and critical life events on the engagement of fathers in different national contexts. Poster Presentations provided further opportunity to promote networking, to present research findings and to enable lively exchange.
The goals of the conference also include initiating an international research network to further the exchange of ideas and recent research and to encourage cross-national collaborations. More information about the International Father Research Network that was founded during the conference can be found here.
